I just had the amazing honour of having a meal at the Nobu restaurant at The One and Only hotel and resort. The resort is situated in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront and is Sol Kerzner’s latest venture.
The setting and overall environment of the 7-star resort is second to none. The rooms are spacious and inviting, the staff are friendly, kind and attentive and the visuals… no words could possibly describe the interiors and overall architecture and landscaping.
Nobu is the restaurant at the resort that offers fine Japanese cuisine. The chef has also infused elements of South African products and dining with the traditional Japanese methods and ingredients, which creates an additional unique element to the meal.
My highlights for the evening, food wise, would have to be the Beef Teriyaki. It’s soft and flavourful with a full-bodied teriyaki flavour. This is preceded by Miso soup and accompanied by steamed rice. This meal is amazing, yet the Omakazi menu is where the true Nobu experience really shines forth.
The Omakazi menu is a 7 course tasting menu, of the chef’s choosing, consisting of a selection of dishes from the various sections of the menu (appetisers, hot dishes, sushi and dessert). Each dish is a surprise, yet they do ask if you have any special dietary requirements (another great touch). Choosing the Omakazi menu allows one to truly experience the cuisine as a whole and in all it’s varying forms.
On the whole, even if you just pop in at The One and Only for a drink, it’s 100% worth the experience. The atmosphere, food and drink and the kind, friendly and helpful staff make the entire experience one truly worthy of the 7-star label.
